How to become a web developer?

Introduction

In today’s digital age, becoming a web developer can be a lucrative and rewarding career path. However, for those just starting out, it can be difficult to know where to begin. In this blog post, we’ll discuss the steps you can take to become a web developer, no matter what’s your background or experience level.

Education

First up before we go in on a deep dive into vast options out there, I would like to clear up the topic how generally you can become a developer. Because there are bunch of options there. I won’t cover all of them but I am grouping them into three categories of most important in my opinion. In addition to that I’d like to say that we are all different, therefore different things suits us.

Self taught

Pros and cons of being a self taught developer
Time & place chosen by your preferences
You choose what to study
Freedom to chose the instructors
There is no internship, therefore less experience
No degree or certificate of completion
You do everything by yourself

University

Pros and cons of chasing a computer sicence degree
Work with the prepared courses
Get a degree upon graduation
Internship already arranged, certainly more experience
Some rules are applied
Learning something that you won’t be able to apply or/and monetize
Changing the professor is not an option

Boot-camp

Pros and cons of attending the developer boot-camp
Choose which topic is interesting for you
Get a certificate after you complete it
Smaller groups therefore you get more attention
No internship
Risk not choosing the best one for the money
Internship is not already arranged

To further explain, everything has a risk and it’s pros and cons. One thing to keep in mind, we are all different and we are not made for everything.

For example I have a degree in computer-science and they taught us some things that I’ve never used for the past seven years of my career as a web developer Firstly, I knew that in Serbia I’ll need a degree someday, therefore self taught was not for me back then. Secondly there were no boot camps in Serbia in 2011. Therefore I went to the university.

Most importantly, do what best suits you. Talk it through with your closest friends or family, get their objective advice, but at the end it’s really up to you since no one is going to do the work for you.

How to become a front-end developer?

Introduction

Front-end development is a lucrative and rapidly growing field in the tech industry. It involves creating visually appealing, user-friendly interfaces for websites and applications. If you’re interested in pursuing a career in front-end development, this article will guide you through the steps you need to take to become a front-end developer.

Learn the Fundamentals

To become a front-end developer, you need to have a solid foundation in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. These are the core technologies that power the front-end of websites and applications. Therefore you need to master them, consequently to that everything else will come easier. You can learn these fundamentals through online tutorials, courses, books, blogs, etc. Some popular resources for learning front-end development include Codecademy, and W3Schools or some of my favorite Youtube channels that I’ll link down below. To sum up, you need to be fully confident in your knowledge of the fundamental technologies, then you can pick one of the big three (React, Angular or VueJS) frameworks. I suggest you to pick one because they are really packed with features, and in my opinion one is enough.

Build Projects

Once you have a strong grasp of the fundamentals of front-end development, the next step is to start building projects. Firstly, building projects will help you solidify your knowledge, secondly you will gain practical experience, lastly you can create a portfolio of work to show to potential employers. Start with small projects such as creating a personal website or a simple web application. As you gain more experience, you can take on more complex projects.

Stay Up to Date

Front-end development is a constantly evolving field, and it’s important to stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies. In addition to the previously mentioned learning resources to stay up to date you can join online communities and attend conferences to stay connected with other front-end developers and learn about new developments in the field. Some popular online communities for front-end developers include CSS-Tricks, and DeveloperComunity.

How to Become a Back-End Web Developer

Introduction

Web development is a highly sought-after skill in today’s technology-driven world. While front-end development has become quite popular, back-end development remains just as valuable. Back-end developers are responsible for creating server-side applications that make websites run smoothly. In this section, we will discuss how you can become a back-end web developer.

Learn the Fundamentals

Before you begin your journey to becoming a back-end web developer, you need to have a strong understanding of the fundamentals of programming. Firstly you will need to learn at least one programming language, such as Python, JavaScript, PHP or Java. Secondly you need to grasp all the concepts like algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented programming. In order to learn those fundamentals you can checkout some of my favorite channels on YouTube. In addition to that you can enroll in online courses or attend coding boot camps to learn these skills. For instance, JavaScript might be a good option if you are gunning for full stack developer one day. Since the front-end of the applications today are in fact built with JavaScript, therefore you won’t be learning two separate languages but only one.

Practice Makes IT Perfect

Once you have a strong foundation in programming, you need to start practicing your skills. Create simple projects, such as building a blog or e-commerce website, to get hands-on experience. You can also contribute to open-source projects to gain more experience and work on real-world problems. This will help you develop your skills and build a portfolio of work that you can showcase to potential employers.

Stay Up-to-Date with the Latest Technologies

Technology is constantly evolving, and it is essential for back-end developers to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies. Keep an eye on industry trends and new releases of programming languages and tools. Attend conferences and meetups to network with other developers and learn about the latest developments in the field.

How to become a full-stack developer?

Well I don’t want to repeat myself here and it would be just that. Full stack developer is just a combination of the two above. Basically it’s the guy who can build both front and back. It feels good to do both things, I can tell you that, because that is what I am doing. But there is other side of the coin and it’s overwhelming. You start to mix the two worlds. Just two days ago I was typing my JavaScript variables like this const $name = 'djole'; and each time I would place the dollar sign like in PHP. But then at the end of the day, you look what you’ve built, damn, that feel good.

Conclusion

Becoming any type of web developer requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and practice. However, with the right mindset and resources, anyone can become a skilled developer. Firstly learn the basics of anything that you do, secondly practice – build as many projects as you can, lastly always try new things, don’t be afraid to throw yourself out there. Get out of your comfort zone and do the things you love!
